Daughters of the Dust

Right off the bat this movie was such a visual pleasure to watch.  I really loved their use of transitions all throughout this movie.  The editing really stole the show for me and I don't really get why. Something about the change in transition aligning with the change in story just really hooked me.  The only big thing that I wasn't a fan of in terms of the editing and cinematography was the use of montages.  Although I understand why they were there in terms of the art of it I just feel like it really took away from the plot.  It felt like just a bunch of filler like I said with the Bollywood film Huch Huch Hota Hai we watched in Film history two the first term.

I really wasn't really into the plot a ton as I feel I should have.  I feel like this plot was just really slow.  The plot itself is really interesting but the pacing made it so I hard for me to get through.  Other than that, the costumes are beautiful, the scenery is eye catching.  Overall I really did like this movie.

  1. I think the plot had a really slow build as well, it was hard to keep up with it all at times because Hollywood gives us one thing after the other so we don't have to reflect on what just happened or leave room for interpretation. As in Persepolis they often bridge the gaps for us nowadays with the pacing of films.

  2. I agree 100% with everything you've mentioned. The plot was quite confusing and slow for me. But the cinematography was what made me appreciate this film. They took the time to think about each edit they made, where each character should stand, etc.
