In terms of the film itself, I am not the biggest fan. I actually really struggled to get through the entire documentary. Usually I love watching documentaries, but after this documentary I've learned that I only enjoy narrative documentaries. The lack of story within this film made it difficult for me to get truly immersed in these people's lives. Observing the lives of the people in this way made it seem sort of dehumanizing. At the end of the day all we are doing is watching their everyday lives without any explanation from them. I would have really appreciated the insight from them and a look into some other parts of their culture that isn't apart of their everyday lives.
I think this film is challenging in just the ways that you outline here. It refuses story and the elements that undergird narrative. In doing so it takes away the visual pleasure that we expect. In its place, we get a sort of critical spectatorship that deconstructs the idea of documentary itself but that just might not be as much fun as a story.
