Right off the bat, I really loved this movie. This was the first time I've seen this iconic movie. I've heard about this movie a ton through my life but for some reason I never got around to actually watching it. I went into this movie with no expectations. I was so into the first part of the movie I forgot that it was supposed to be a scary movie. Overall I really loved Norman Bates character. He reminded me of Bob Saget mixed with Ross Lynch as Jeffery Dahmer in My Friend Dahmer for some reason. Great movie by the way. I strongly enjoyed the watching experience of this movie. I already cant wait to come back to it to show some friends
of Norman Bates, it is said that he has DID and that is the mental illness that drove him to act as he does and kill. In reality people with DID are just people who went through something so traumatic as a very young child that their brain couldnt handle. This movie created the harmful stereotype of people with this disease are killers and should be feared. Nearly every single movie after this with a character with DID has painted them in this awful light. This is obviously incredibly harmful to this already troubled community. Of course times were different but it just goes to show the importance of reasearch.
I totally agree with you that this film is both so good yet so bad in its depiction of people with mental illness. Even though representation of people with mental illness isnt great now, it still has advanced far beyond this sort of representation.
